The Man in My Closet

There is a naked man standing in my closet. I’ve called the police and they are on there way. I’ve locked myself in my office but I am seriously freaking out right now. The dispatcher advised me to just sit tight and wait for the officers to show up. I’ll post more after they leave.

Well, that didn’t go how I thought it would. I let the officers in so they wouldn’t break down my door and they went into my room and checked my closet. They told me there was no one there. I followed after them and the guy was still there. Just standing there. I pointed to him as he was right there but apparently only I can see him. Either I’m crazy or he’s a ghost. I’m leaning towards the former.

The police asked me about any medication or drugs I’m on but I hadn’t even been drinking that day. They gave me a phone number to call for psychiatric help and then left. I would love to be able to attribute all of this to stress, I did just get back from my grandfather’s funeral but my parents handled all of his affairs so it wasn’t all that stressful.

Now I know what most of you are thinking right now: “Oh it’s the ghost of his grandfather!”. No. I know what my grandfather looked like, and he was quite a bit taller then the man in my closet is. The only similarity is how skeletal they both looked. If the man in my closet is a ghost he must have died of cancer as well. I’m going to see a therapist tomorrow. I found one who does emergency visits and he was able to squeeze me in. I’ll be sleeping at a hotel tonight.

Well that guy was a hack, now I know why he had an open slot for me. I’m back at home now. Looks like I’ll just have to get used to the idea of having a corpse standing in my closet. At least he hasn’t moved at all. I’m avoiding looking too closely at him or approaching him. Him? It? Whatever.

I’ve started unpacking some of my grandfathers belongings. There wasn’t a lot of money left over after the medical bills but he did leave me some interesting items in his will. If it is a ghost it’s probably one of them that’s haunted. My choices are: old wood working chest, case of medals from world war 2 (British army), fly fishing pole (actually really nice one) or his hat. I can’t imagine any of them carrying the soul of some dude who died of cancer but I’m going to guess the case of medals is what’s haunted. I’ll be doing some experiments tomorrow.

It’s the wood working chest. No idea why, but I rented a hotel room and took each item with me and the ghost followed me to the hotel when I brought the chest over. Again, naked man just standing there in the hotel closet. Well, I guess I’m not crazy? Maybe? I’ve started going through the items in the chest to figure out which one could be the culprit.

All things considered, I’m handling this really well. I guess no one really knows how they will respond to being haunted, but now that I know what it’s something in the wood working chest it’s gotten easier to handle. Worst case scenario, I just get rid of the thing. I don’t want to because it belonged to my grandfather, but it is an option.

It must be the chest itself that’s haunted. I emptied it completely and the ghost is following the chest, not the tools. Now I just have to figure out what about it makes it haunted. I’ve taken it over to a few antique shops in town and one of them had a chest just like it. It’s old. My grandfather must have bought it right after the war. Nothing like hobbies to take your mind off of all of the shit you’ve just seen.

That still begs the question of why it would be haunted in the first place. My grandfather never talked about seeing ghosts so maybe he didn’t? Maybe I’m the only one in my family who can? If that’s the case why didn’t I see this ghost growing up? I spent a good amount of time at my grandfathers house and I would have noticed a naked man standing in my his closet. I’ll do a more thorough inspection of the chest tomorrow.

I’m really glad reddit is anonymous. My grandfather was my mother’s father and I don’t want her to know what I found. There was a compartment on the side. In this compartment was a painting. A very rare, vary expensive painting that was probably from a very rich family. A very rich Jewish family.

I made some phone calls. My grandfather never served in the British army. I’m having a hard time figuring out how he managed to fake everything and make it out of Germany without being discovered, but it’s looking like he may have been stationed at Auschwitz or something. And the ghost has numbers tattooed on his left arm.

I’ve turned the painting in at a museum with the express request for them not to reveal where it came from. If it’s any consolation to those of you who are still reading, my grandfather died in agony. He had stage 4 pancreatic cancer before the doctors caught it, and I’m told that’s one of the worst ones to die from. At the end, he looked like a holocaust victim.
