The following is a transcription of a digital camera’s contents. This footage was the only thing in it, which I found washing ashore while I was running by the beach this morning. I’ll turn it over to the police now.
[Girl about 13 years-old filming her own face] Hi, I’m Margot! I just got this amazing camera for my birthday. My YouTube channel will be so cool now!
[Older girl] Who are you talking to, Margot? Oh, don’t film me, I’m ugly.
[Younger girl, rolling her eyes] My sister is so dramatic. Anyway, dad rented a boat for us today. We are already far from the shore! It’s so sunny and the visibility is perfect. [You can see a deep blue sea and beautiful sky] There will be a small island on our way and lots of seagulls. Dad is taking a nap now because boats always make him sleepy. Mariah, where’s mom?
[Older girl, looking at her phone and covering her face] Don’t know. Stop filming me.
[Younger girl, pointing the camera ahead] Where could mom be? It’s a small boat. The cabin doesn’t even fit all of us.
[Deep baritone tone] Hello, young ladies! I’ll be your guide for today. Do you want to hear the very secret and scary legend of The Two Princes Island?
[Younger girl, excitedly] Yes!
[Older girl, half-heartedly] Sure.
[The younger girl, Margot, points the camera at the guide. He’s a good-looking man in his late 20s, wearing casual jeans, sunglasses and a white shirt]
[Guide] Point this over there. There. You see that V-shape a little far away? That’s The Two Princes Island.
[Margot] Does someone live there?
[Guide] No, not nowadays. You see, a long time ago there was a king that loved his two sons very much. He gave his sons strong names. The oldest boy was called Ewen, that means warrior, and the youngest was Dylan, son of the sea.
[Margot, muttering] That’s pretty.
[Guide] The king was already old, he had his sons at an advanced age. By then, Ewen was 20, and Dylan was 18. Ewen was a righteous man, and everyone knew the king planned to abdicate and make his older son the new ruler.
[Margot] What about Dylan?
[Guide] Dylan was charming and his father loved him very much, but saw him as still too immature to be a king. Despite that, the younger prince went to his father and begged to rule over half the island. The king said that Ewen was more suited to be his successor, so Dylan came up with a lie. He cried, claiming to be in love with his brother’s bride to-be, Caron, and that he felt like a disgrace, unworthy of having anything.
[Mariah] You’re already a prince, Dylan. What a drama queen.
[Guide, smiling largely] It broke the king’s heart, because he wanted to be a good and fair father. So he decided that Caron, the prettiest girl on the island, would now marry his younger son. That would make both boys happy, he thought. But he couldn’t be more wrong.
[Guide] Dylan was charming enough to quickly assemble an army of islanders willing to die for him. As soon as the king abdicated, Dylan said he would fight his brother to death for half the island, if necessary. Ewen didn’t want to start a war, so he simply indulged his brother. A second castle was built, on the other side of the island, and Dylan married Caron too.
[Mariah] So he got everything he wanted. The little bitch.
[Guide] Remember he didn’t even like Caron, he just wanted to win. But you know who truly loved Caron? Ewen. His comrades told him not to give up so easily, but out of respect of his father’s decision, the older prince hesitated to take action.
[Guide] Many years had passed, with two princes ruling over one island. Ewen’s half prospered, while Dylan’s half always had problems, but his people was still devoted to him.
[Margot] Like when they divided Germany.
[Guide] After the king died, Caron and Ewen secretly met and came up with a plan; Caron would tell everyone that Dylan was sick, and imprison him in the castle. She then would rule that part of the island, because they still didn’t have a son. Simple enough, right?
[Guide] But as the couple made their plans, Dylan and his army were already on Ewen’s side of the island. The younger prince wanted to rule over everything and leave his brother with nothing. He didn’t know that Ewen, too, had a loyal army. On that fateful evening, most of the population died. Dylan had a magnetism that made people want to slaughter their own friends and neighbors for his sake. Ewen, on the other side, was a great leader and it wasn’t hard for him to convince his men and women that they had to protect the island from his reckless younger brother.
[The girls are in complete silence, and the hand holding the camera is trembling slightly]
[Guide] As the battle unfolded, Ewen, the warrior, had been able to enchain Dylan. He wanted to interrogate the younger prince. He wanted to know why he was doing that to the island. Dylan laughed and confessed he never loved Caron, he only wanted to win and to be the most powerful one in the kingdom. He said “I simply envied you and wanted to make you miserable”. Dylan then told his brother how awfully he had treated Caron all these years, not showing a flicker of remorse.
[Guide, while the camera shows the empty island really close] Ewen lost his mind and pushed Dylan to sure death, down the cliff and into the sea. But, just like Ewen was a great warrior, Dylan was blessed by the sea gods. His last words before disappearing into the black waters underneath were “I’m coming back to bite your face off”.
[Guide, after a dramatic pause] Dylan, the son of the sea, was never able to bite his brother’s face off, but that’s what he does to unwary people that approach his island.
[Older man’s voice] Who is this man?
[Mariah] He’s the guide, dad.
[Older man] I didn’t request a guide.
[The screen goes black]
[You can hear maniac laughter and shredding sounds for 30 whole minutes]
